In the world of higher education, raising awareness for specialized programs requires a strategic approach, especially when targeting prospective students from out of state. A college Transportation Engineering program set out to do just that—boost their visibility and drive traffic to their website to attract applicants for their upcoming semester

To achieve this, they enlisted Vici Media to develop a digital strategy that would build awareness and increase website traffic, ultimately leading to more student inquiries and applications

Digital Strategy: Targeting the Right Audience at the Right Time

To reach prospective students, our strategy involved running a Display ad campaign aimed at college intenders and high schoolers. Using a combination of geo-targeting and behavioral targeting, we were able to pinpoint urban areas and mass transit cities where there was likely interest in transportation engineering careers. Our campaign also targeted behavioral categories that included college-bound high schoolers and parents of high school students—two key groups most likely to research and apply to higher education programs

By focusing on areas where interest in transportation engineering might be higher and using precise targeting, we maximized the chances of reaching students and families who would be most likely to visit the program’s website and learn more

Results: A Remarkable Increase in Traffic and Applications

The results were immediate and impressive. Within the first week of the campaign, the college saw its website traffic triple—a significant boost compared to prior years. Over the course of the campaign, the college’s admissions team confirmed that several applicants had found out about the Transportation Engineering program through the Display ads, which led them to explore and apply for the program

Initially planned as a four-month campaign to target prospective students over the summer, the overwhelming success led the client to renew the campaign for seven additional months. The continued increase in website traffic and confirmed applicants made it clear that this digital strategy was effectively driving interest in the program
