A professional soccer team set out to increase season ticket sales for the upcoming year and drive single-game ticket purchases throughout the season. With a young, active fan base, they knew a shift to digital media would be essential for reaching their audience and boosting ticket sales

The Strategy: A Comprehensive Digital Game Plan

The team had previously relied on traditional media strategies like TV and radio to promote ticket sales. However, this season they opted for a digital-first approach, leveraging their strong social media presence as a springboard for building awareness and driving conversions

Vici Media implemented a multi-layered digital strategy that began with Mobile Conquesting. We used several advanced tactics, including

  • Address Targeting and Geo-Retargeting: Targeting previous ticket buyers based on their address and retargeting them with ads to encourage repeat purchases.
  • Geo-Fencing: Focusing on local areas of interest such as other sporting venues and family entertainment locations, geo-fencing key areas where sports enthusiasts gathered.

As the season got underway, Social Media ads and Social Mirror were introduced to further drive online ticket purchases. To maintain engagement from game to game, we launched Amazon Video, OTT, and Display Ads, targeting soccer fans, families, and sports lovers. The ads featured game highlights, schedules, and promotions for upcoming matches

This strategy included flighted schedules, which allowed us to start promoting the next game immediately after each match, while increasing the volume of impressions 3-4 days before each game to create buzz and drive last-minute ticket sales

The Results: A Record-Breaking Season

After a year of campaign optimization, the soccer team’s ticket sales hit new heights. The campaign achieved an overall click-through rate (CTR) of 0.93%, with Social Media ads reaching as high as 3.5% CTR

The momentum built quickly after the first two months, with a notable spike in ticket sales occurring 72 hours before each game. Ultimately, the team shattered its previous record for the most tickets sold in a single season
