Native Ad Strategy Helps City Break Attendance Records for 4th of July Event

As cities around the country work to attract tourists and drive economic growth, one client, a Visitors Bureau in the Midwest, has successfully transformed their holiday event marketing. After years of hosting Fourth of July celebrations without a significant increase in attendance, they decided to take a new approach. This year, they partnered with Vici Media to implement a native digital advertising strategy, and the results were extraordinary.

Objective


This Visitors Bureau aims to increase tourism by organizing family-friendly events throughout the year, with the Fourth of July celebration being one of their highlights. The holiday event featured activities for all ages, including live music, bounce houses, rock climbing, and a grand fireworks display. The primary goal of the campaign was to boost attendance, targeting Women aged 25-54, specifically moms with school-aged children, in hopes of positioning the event as the “must-attend” family outing of the summer.

Strategy


Our team at Vici Media crafted a native digital strategy designed to engage the audience in a way that felt familiar and trustworthy. Native ads have the unique advantage of blending seamlessly with the look and feel of the host website or app, allowing the message to reach users in an authentic way that’s not disruptive to their browsing experience.

The campaign included four native ads, which took the form of local news-style articles promoting the event as the summer’s top family outing. The ads were structured to capture attention, with dynamic headlines and visuals that highlighted the event’s family-friendly atmosphere. We launched this targeted campaign two weeks before the Fourth of July, using 200,000 ad impressions to reach our desired audience.

Results


The campaign exceeded all expectations and set new records for engagement and attendance. Over the two-week period, the native ad units generated:

  • 4,958 clicks and a 1.9% CTR (27 times the national average for display ad units)
  • 324% increase in Google Analytics sessions, with traffic jumping from 4,174 to 17,696 sessions


These impressive numbers translated directly into increased event attendance. The Visitors Bureau reported their largest crowd to date, with visitors flocking to the Fourth of July celebration.

Future Plans


The campaign’s success has inspired the Visitors Bureau to adopt this strategy for all future events. Not only that, but their Economic Development department has taken note, requesting a native ad campaign to target small business owners in the upcoming quarter.
