A beloved local horse race, cherished for its family-friendly activities like face painting and petting zoos, had been absent for seven years. This year, it galloped back into the spotlight, and our team at Vici Media was proud to help make its return a smashing success.

The Challenge

The client needed to reintroduce the race to the community, attract fans of horse racing, and sell tickets effectively. The goal was clear: ignite excitement among fans of professional horse racing, the Kentucky Derby, and other derby-related events, while ensuring this event became a permanent fixture on the local social calendar.

The Strategy

To target the ideal audience, we implemented a Facebook/Instagram Premium campaign. This included:

  1. Targeted Audience Categories: We honed in on fans of derby events, horse racing enthusiasts, and even gamblers to maximize engagement. Categories like "Kentucky Derby" and "Professional Horse Race" ensured we were reaching the right people.
  2. Retargeting Tactics: By leveraging retargeting strategies from the client's website, we reached individuals who had shown interest in the past 60 days.
  3. Compelling Creatives: The campaign utilized a combination of carousel and video ads to captivate the audience, blending visually appealing content with strategic messaging.

The Results

The results of this campaign were nothing short of remarkable. Over a two-month period, the campaign achieved:

  • 3.96% Click-Through Rate (CTR): An impressive 56 times higher than the national average.
  • 153,200 Impressions and 6,070 Clicks: Demonstrating high levels of interest and engagement.
  • 24,791 Post Engagements: Including actions like clicks on the call-to-action, profile visits, and site clicks.
  • 472 Post Reactions, 120 Shares, and 18 Comments: Highlighting the organic buzz generated by the campaign.

Best of all, the client was thrilled with the outcome. The attendance exceeded expectations, with community members celebrating the return of this much-loved event. As the client shared, “The first few weeks were off the charts. Everyone was very happy with the attendance for the race returning. It will be on the social calendar for many more people next year.”
