A single-location credit union, known for its strong brand reputation, faced a challenge: while long-term membership remained steady, transactional lending had been on a year-over-year decline. Traditionally relying on radio ads to maintain visibility, the credit union realized that to boost small consumer loan applications, they needed a fresh, targeted approach. Vici Media was engaged to help them connect with a new audience and increase loan applications from new members

Strategy: Reaching New Members Through Targeted Social Media Ads

Our strategy began with defining the ideal audience—adults aged 18-34 interested in small loans to finance travel, used vehicles, recreational purchases, and nontraditional education. Research revealed that social media would be the most effective platform for reaching this demographic within the credit union’s geographic area

To maximize engagement, we deployed targeted categories, including those in college, adventure seekers, and users in-market for used vehicles. With this, we paired emotionally resonant ad creatives designed to stand out in the social media landscape. To capture visitors who didn’t convert on their first visit, we also launched News Feed Retargeting ads in carousel format on Facebook, ensuring our message stayed top-of-mind. Our recommendation was to serve 180,000 impressions over three months, and we aligned their long-running radio schedule to resonate with this digital campaign

Results: Significant Increase in Loan Applications and Member Engagement

The results exceeded expectations. Impressions over-delivered, with a total of 198,858, and achieved a 0.53% click-through rate—over seven times the national average. During the campaign, the credit union’s website received 900+ new, qualified visitor sessions. More importantly, loan applications saw a dramatic increase: comparing the same three months year-over-year, total loan amounts rose from $42,946.54 (without digital advertising) to $302,298.35 with the digital campaign in place

With the right digital tools and audience targeting, this credit union successfully increased new loan applications and connected with a fresh demographic
